Back in 2002, Discovery Communications launched Discovery HD Theater in the United States. In addition to HD Theater, Discovery Communications offers high-definition services to its sister channel, namely, Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, TLC, Science Channel and Planet Green. And in Asia, it launched three high-definition channels, Discovery HD (now Discovery HD World), Animal Planet HD and TLC HD. In October 2008, Discovery Channel HD was launched in Japan.
